Keith Urban recently appeared on The Late Late Show with James Corden and we still aren’t over the story he shared about his strangest gig ever.

“We played in an airport,” Keith shared. “Which doesn’t sound horrible, except for the fact it was a tiny regional airport in Australia, like 20 years ago.”

Why an airport, you ask? Urban told Corden that his manager at the time had struck “some very questionable deal” in order to get Urban’s three-piece band some airline tickets. Intrigued? Just wait, it gets better.

"You know the little carpeted area above the carousel where the bags come 'round... it's like an island thing above it, right? Yeah. That's where we had to play,” Keith recalled as he laughed.

Talk about a slice of humble pie. After a brief set up and soundcheck on the “stage,” Urban started playing for an empty carousel, not a person or bag in sight.

“So we start playing and a couple people came over and they’re checking out the music, then a few more people,” Urban shared remembering in that moment he didn’t think it was a bad gig. But then, the bags came!

“All the bags start coming,” Keith explained while laughing and mimicking the noise of the airport baggage alarm. “Everyone got their luggage and they just all left… I was playing to nobody.”

Playing for nobody isn’t something Urban has to worry about anymore, as he is known to fill arenas to the brim and offer one of the most personalized concert experiences in all of Country music.

He also recently hosted the 56 Annual ACM Awards with Mickey Guyton. We’d say he’s doing pretty well for a guy who was singing on a baggage carousel 20 years ago.
