HUNTINGTON VILLAGE, N.Y. (WCBS 880) — A Long Island, New York homeowner says that bats have continued to appear in his home for the last five years, despite taking several preventative measures.

The couple, who lives in Huntington Village, have an average home sitting on top a beautiful piece of property, with lots of flowers and plants.

It seems like a typical Long Island home but, for some unknown reason, over the last five years about eight young bats have found their way inside their brick home.

“The first one appeared when I was in the sun room making a copy on the copy machine, and this thing flew across the room – it was fast – and I got a good enough look at it to recognize it as a bat and yeah, I freaked out,” the homeowner, who wished to remain anonymous told WCBS 880.

They luckily found a rescuer to come and humanly remove the bats to a better home.

“I have nothing personal against bats, I mean they're doing their job but, I don't want to my house.”

He says they have searched for a solution to the issue, but it’s been difficult to prevent more bats from getting into the home.

“I spent months, in the spring in the summer, crawling around all the crawl spaces in the house, trying to find any possible point of entry. I caulked everything, I put boards over everything and nailed them down.
I spent months doing this and darn if there wasn’t another bat. I don't know where they're coming in,” the homeowner said.

They couple says the first two weeks of August as known as “bat season” for them, because that is when the bats usually appear, and they have been unable to stop it.

“It's like a nightmare,” the homeowner said.
