In a surprise post across social media platforms, Noah Kahan announced the same-day release of Stick Season (Forever). This extension is the third and final version of Kahan’s original Stick Season album, released back in October 2022. With TikTok viral audio and his brutally honest lyrics, the album quickly launched Kahan to the top of the Indie Alternative and Americana music scenes.
As Kahan’s popularity grew, Stick Season became an entire series through the release of six new collaborations in the form of remixes. Powerhouse artist Hozier lends his voice to “Northern Attitude”, Kacey Musgraves can be heard on the remix for “She Calls Me Back”, and even Post Malone joined in for a “Dial Drunk” feature. And the duets don’t stop there, as Kahan also paired up with the likes of Lizzy McAlpine, Gracie Abrams, and Sam Fender. Though each remix was published individually, Stick Season (Forever) marks the first time they have been compiled into one collective album.
If those remixes still weren’t enough, the Forever version also contains three new originals. “You’re Gonna Go Far” is included as both a solo and feature with Brandi Carlile, as is the song “Paul Revere” with Gregory Alan Isakov. “I’m grateful and beyond proud to be sharing these two songs with artists that have soundtracked my entire life,” Kahan said of his collaborators. “Gregory and Brandi have written songs that have carried me through pain, loneliness, dramatic life changes, and the entirety of my career. I am so honored to have them on this final re-release.” Kahan’s new single, “Forever” is also added into the mix, making this album a whopping 30 tracks long. Extended version indeed!
The album announcement comes less than a week after the 2024 GRAMMY Awards, where Kahan was nominated for Best New Artist. Though he didn’t take the gold home, Kahan is still overwhelmed with gratitude. “To feel deserving of something so great was a real challenge,” he began in a social media post, “but with all of your support and the support of my team, and my loved ones, I feel like I did grow in confidence and finally feel proud of myself…Thank you to everybody who cheered me on this week, and over these last 8 years.”
Win or no win, the future looks bright for Noah. As he closes the Stick Season chapter of his career, he admitted that he is no longer afraid of the uncertainty that follows him. “I do not know what is next,” Kahan wrote. “But I’m glad I get forever to find it.”
