While initially about his body transformation, the “King Richard” star disclosed the process unveiled deeper issues.

"When I started this show, I thought I was getting into the best shape of my life, physically. But, mentally, I was somewhere else," Smith said in the clip.

He added: “What you've come to understand as Will Smith, the alien annihilating MC, bigger than life movie star, is largely a construction, a carefully crafted and honed character designed to protect myself, to hide myself from the world, to hide the coward."

While the trailer is filled with images of Smith working out and performing strenuous fitness regimens, it also exposes some more emotional moments.

In one particularly intimate scene, the actor is seen at a table surrounded by his three children, Trey, Willow and Jaden, as he reveals one of his darkest moments.

"That was the only time in my life that I ever considered suicide," Smith said without elaborating further or giving context to the statement.

The trailer also shows Smith was simultaneously writing his memoir, “Will,” while undergoing the physical makeover.

In May, the “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” alum first disclosed he was taking on the body transformation by sharing a unfiltered photo exposing his torso with the caption: “I’m gonna be real wit yall - I’m in the worst shape of my life.”

“Will Smith: The Best Shape of My Life” premieres on YouTube on November 8th, one day before his book is released.
