After opting out of the 2020 season, Patrick Chung announced his retirement this offseason at the age of 33.
Chung played 10 of his 11 seasons with the Patriots and was a key contributor for three Super Bowl-winning teams.
Speaking to WBZ at the A.J. Quetta Golf Invitational at the Cape Club in Sharon last week, the safety discussed how he's feeling about retirement.
“I do miss it. I miss football. I miss the locker room the most, being with coaches and teammates, having that brotherhood and the camaraderie,” he said.
Chung added: “I miss football, but now it’s time to be a daddy. I’m OK with that job too.”
He feels confident the team will be able to turn things around after going 7-9 a year ago.
“Last year is last year. This year, on paper, we have a good team,” Chung said. “But we’ll see when the Pats come on and go from there. Bill will always be the greatest coach, so he’ll have them ready.”
As for who he will be rooting for in Week 4 when former teammates Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski return?
“I’ll be rooting for my Pats,” Chung said. “I still love Tom and Gronk, but I gotta root for my boys.”
