Drake Maye on Stefon Diggs: 'I need to get him in the endzone'

Stefon Diggs had a breakout Week 4 with the Patriots, posting over 100 yards on six catches against the Carolina Panthers.

But quarterback Drake Maye continues to look forward to find more ways to get him the football, as he told ‘WEEI Afternoons’ Monday.

“I think he made a great play and I need to get him in the endzone, that’s probably the next thing. Gotta’ break maybe one more tackle, or so, so I’m excited to see him do that. It’s good for him to get back out there and have a great week,” Maye said.

Indeed, Diggs has yet to reach the endzone this year – even though he looks healthy and was dominant Sunday. Maye sounded pleased with how the chemistry between Diggs and himself has blossomed.

“It’s continuing to grow. You know, lots of stuff has been across the middle and crossing routes with Stef, so it’s good to see something on outside hit,” he said, referencing a back-shoulder throw Diggs grabbed against the Panthers.

Diggs made headlines with a postgame comment stating he was about a “five out of 10” when it comes to comfort with the Patriots offense.

“Five out of 10. Take it with a grain of salt,” Diggs said after Sunday’s win. “Obviously, having success, it's week to week. It's been a slow ramp-up or build-up that I didn't even notice through these past four weeks.

Maye didn’t give himself a grade on a scale of 10, but said he’s feeling better every week, and feels confident in Josh McDaniels’ terminology.

“I think Stef really was hoping, I think the five out of 10 meant he has a lot better to go,” he explained. “We’ve just got to keep building. We’ve got our best football to play ahead of us.”
