Heading into the 2023 season, the Patriots had one Monday Night Football game scheduled for themselves: a home, December matchup against the reigning Super Bowl champion Chiefs.

They now have zero.

The NFL announced on Thursday afternoon that, for the first time ever, they've flexed a Monday Night Football game. The Week 15 New England vs. Kansas City game will be replaced with the 10-1 Eagles vs. the 6-5 Seahawks.

The Chiefs, at 8-3 and as defending champs, are obviously a major focal point of the NFL. They have arguably the best player in football in Patrick Mahomes as their quarterback as well as one of the more marketable players in Travis Kelce thanks to his relationship with pop sensation Taylor Swift, something the league has effectively used to market themselves in primetime.

The Patriots, however, are no longer the draw they used to be. A reality that, surely, can't sit well with team owner Robert Kraft. The six-time Super Bowl champions, at just 2-9 are in the midst of one of their worst starts in franchise history, as well as the benching of quarterback Mac Jones, who once was thought to be their franchise signal caller.

The Patriots vs. Chiefs game will now be played on Sunday, December 17th at 1 p.m.
