While there was plenty that went wrong in the Patriots' 21-17 loss to the Raiders on Sunday afternoon, there's one play that will stand out above the rest.
New England had the ball with 1:57 left in the contest on 2nd and 12, quarterback Mac Jones threw a perfect pass on a go-ball to wide receiver DeVante Parker. If he hauled it in, they would have had the ball somewhere around the 50-yard line, needing just a field goal to take the lead.
Spoiler alert: Parker dropped the pass.
Following the game, here's how Parker, his quarterback, and his head coach reacted to the momentum-shifting play:
DeVante Parker
"I don't know, what'd you see?" he asked back when broached about what happened on the play.
"The pass hit my fingertips, I think," Parker explained when asked if he got his fingers on the ball. "But I didn't get the full grasp of it."
"I think so," he said when asked if he can make that catch. "Fingertips, I don't know."
Mac Jones
DP's a great deep ball threat," the quarterback said. "We kind of agreed that we wanted that route. Just tough, tough play. If it goes one way we might go down there and win. If it goes the other way, we didn't. It's just tough. It's football. But the end of the day I have a lot of trust in the receivers and I felt like their energy this week was really good and they've been very confident that they can get open and catch the ball and they've shown that at times for sure."
Bill Belichick
"Yeah, I was on the other side of the field," said the head coach when asked if he saw the drop.
