6 rings: Reacting to Day 1 of NFL Free Agency, Mike Onwenu re-signing with Patriots
The Patriots are re-signing one of their core defensive players.
According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, New England has come to terms with linebacker Josh Uche to return to Foxborough on a one-year deal.
Garafolo added that Uche, "had much more on the table elsewhere." He seemingly took a discount to remain with the Patriots. SI’s Albert Breer has since reported that it’s a one-year deal for $3 million with incentives that can take it up to $8 million.
"He’d be a coach I want to play for," Uche told MassLive's Mark Daniels of New England's new head coach Jerod Mayo. "I’d run through a wall for him. I love players’ coaches... I’m all in on Mayo."
Uche put together a career season in 2022, tallying career highs in sacks (11.5), tackles for loss (27), and forced fumbles (2). In 2023, however, he didn't produce as much in part due to injury. He now gets to try and return to his old self with the team that drafted him in the second-round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
