OK, maybe it's not quite Justin Verlander, Max Scherzer or Jacob deGrom, but the Red Sox are bringing in 36-year-old right-hander Corey Kluber on a one-year deal, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan. The deal includes a team option for 2024.

Kluber was arguably the best pitcher in the American League for a five-year stretch from 2014-18, when he won two Cy Youngs (in 2014 and 2017) and finished third in voting two other times (2016 and 2018) as a member of the Cleveland Guardians (then Indians).

Kluber then battled injuries for much of the next three seasons while making stops with the Texas Rangers and New York Yankees, but he was able to stay mostly healthy in 2022 with the Tampa Bay Rays.

Kluber made 31 starts this past season and threw 164 innings. He went 10-10 with a 4.34 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 139 strikeouts. He walked just 21 batters for a league-best 1.2 walks per nine innings. Kluber made one appearance in the AL Wild Card Round, allowing one run in 1.2 innings against his former team, Cleveland.
