After an afternoon of some uncertainty, we're finally getting a clear picture of what the Red Sox's trade for Eric Hosmer looks like.
The Red Sox announced that they are sending Jay Groome to the Padres for Hosmer, Max Ferguson, Corey Rosier and cash considerations.

Groome is certainly a notable prospect for the Red Sox to be giving up. They drafted him 12th overall back in 2016 and at one point in 2017, Baseball Prospectus had him as a top-30 prospect in all of baseball.
The left-handed starter's stock has dropped since then, though, as he really hasn't put up dominant numbers since he was at the Low-A level. Now 23 -- and turning 24 later this month -- Groome still hasn't progressed past Double-A, minus a few games in Worcester. He had a 3-4 record and 3.52 ERA in 16 games (14 starts) for Portland this season.
That said, Groome was still ranked as the Red Sox's No. 13 prospect in Baseball America's most recent update.
Ferguson and Rosier are both 22 years old and were playing in Single-A this season, and both come with blazing speed. Ferguson, a middle infielder/utility player, is hitting .221/.365/.358 with six home runs, 50 RBIs, 70 runs and 55 steals in 91 games. Rosier, an outfielder, is slashing .263/.381/.396 with six homers, 37 RBIs, 69 runs and 33 steals in 85 games.
Ferguson was ranked as the Padres' No. 23 prospect in Baseball America's midseason update, while Rosier did not make their top 30.
