The search for the next head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars hasn't included anybody on the Patiots' coaching staff ... yet.
While neither offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels or inside linebackers coach Jerod Mayo has gotten a chance to interview to become Urban Meyer's replacement, that doesn't mean they won't be in the mix.
So, who would be a better fit for the Jags if choosing between the two. Tom E Curran of NBC Sports Boston has a definitive answer: It's Mayo.
"I think for Jacksonville, absolutely (it's Mayo)," said Curran when relaying his take on NFL Sunday. "Because you can go down there and have a general manager who you can defer to as someone who does know the X's and O's and the nuts and bolts and everything else about how to take care of things and Mayo can coach the football team and it's still a culture. If they win and do well with all that cap money and a good quarterback, great, Jerod Mayo has carved a niche. But either way, he takes a jump to sitting next to, slash, behind Steve Belichick and into a position where he wants to be as stated, a head coach. For Josh, it's not a good fit."
