There's a big difference between making New Year's resolutions and setting goals. When you make resolutions, most of us give up on those halfway through January. But goals on the other hand, those can take 6 months to achieve or even longer.
For example, instead of making a New Year's resolution this year to simply lose weight or to lose 40 pounds, I set a goal instead to lose 3 pounds a month. That way the end result is still 36 pounds, it's definitely achieveable and it lasts all year.
So, instead of resolutions, a new survey asked Americans to name their top goals for 2020 and here are the top 10 from Yahoo News:
1. Getting your finances in order
2. Getting out of debt
3. To learn something new
4. Get more organized
5. Buy a new home
6. Exercise more
7. Spend more time with family and friends
8. Travel more
9. Do something nice for yourself
10. Learn a new skill
