How I ruined Valentine's Day for my wife and I

The fire department was almost involved.

I've had the same Valentine for 8 years now, she also happens to be my wife. Her name is Lauryn and I love her a lot. I will admit I am generally not the type to go above and beyond with romantic gestures. I'm more of a "cook a nice dinner and hang out" kind of guy. Which is what I attempted to do last night.

I busted out the cast-iron skillet to grill some nice steaks that Lauryn had bought. I am not too familiar with grilling on cast-iron, so of course I just went ahead with it without looking up any sort of instructions. Sure enough, I started the steaks on fire. I'm not being dramatic when I say we were about 4 seconds away from calling the fire department. All of the smoke alarms in our apartment were going off, we're both standing on chairs violently fanning the alarms with bath towels, it was a total disaster.

When the smoke finally cleared, we were left with some absolutely charred ribeyes. We attempted to eat them still, but it was useless. They were trash. Despite the steak, we still managed to have a nice night together, but the dinner was easily the worst we've had in 8 years. Feeling bad, I had to call Lauryn on the air today to apologize. Here's how that went:
