The matriarch of the Wahlberg family, Alma Wahlberg, has passed away. She was 78 years old.

Mark Wahlberg and Donnie Wahlberg both announced the news on their Instagram pages on Sunday. Mark wrote, "My angel. Rest in peace," alongside a photo of his mother.

Donnie posted a video montage featuring video clips of his mother alongside a caption which reads, "I'm so blessed to have been brought into this world by, raised by, taught by, and set on my life's path by, such an amazing woman."

He continued, "My mom Alma's joy for life, love and people - combined with a pride in her humble beginnings and refusal to forget where she came from - undoubtedly shaped me into the man that I am."

Donnie went on to outline some of his favorite childhood memories with his mother, ending the post with, "I love you, I miss you, thank you and will celebrate you, today and always."

Alma was featured on the A&E reality show "Wahlburgers," which chronicled the fruition of the family-run burger chain operated mostly by Paul Wahlberg, the Hollywood Reporter says.

Alma was the mother of 9 children and worked as a bank clerk and nurse's aide.
