Dog named Lucky rescued after falling into frigid pond amid snowstorm

HEWLETT, N.Y. (1010 WINS) – A dog named Lucky lived up to his name after being rescued from a partially frozen pond in Nassau County during Sunday's snowstorm.

The Golden Retriever fell into the pond at Grant Park in Hewlett around 9 a.m., police said.

Responding officers arrived at the park to find Lucky in the water struggling to stay afloat. His owner was nearby.

Rescue swimmers from the Hewlett Fire Department were deployed into the water.

The swimmers safely reached and rescued Lucky, who was transported to an area animal hospital for evaluation.

Photos released by police show a rescuer with Lucky on the icy pond.
