ST. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo. (KMOX) - Renee Zellweger is set to play the locally infamous convicted killer Pamela Hupp in a new scripted TV show in the works.

The two-time Academy Award winner will star in and be the executive producer in a NBC mini-series based on the murders of Betsy Faria in Lincoln County in 2011 and Louis Gumpenberger in St. Charles County in 2016.

The series has been titled "The Thing About Pam."

The case was also featured in five "Dateline" episodes between 2014 and 2019, and Hupp was the subject of a podcast also named "The Thing About Pam."

Hupp is currently serving a life sentence without parole for the deadly shooting of Gumpenberger. There has long been suspicion that Hupp is also responsible for Faria's killing. Faria's husband was initially convicted of her murder before being acquitted in a retrial.

This will be Zellweger's first starring role in a broadcast television series, although she has appeared in 40 movies. Most recently, she won the Oscar for Best Actress in 2020 for her role as Judy Garland in the biopic "Judy."
