ST. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo. (KMOX) - A Missouri woman, sentenced to life without parole, will now be larger than life thanks to a new NBC series.
Convicted killer Pamela Hupp will be played by Renée Zellweger in "The Things About Pam."
The two-time Academy Award winner is nearly unreconizable as she stars - and is the executive producer - in the NBC mini-series based on the murders of Betsy Faria in Lincoln County in 2011 and Louis Gumpenberger in St. Charles County in 2016.
The show's first trailer was just released.
The case was also featured in five "Dateline" episodes between 2014 and 2019, and Hupp was the subject of a podcast also named "The Thing About Pam."
Hupp is currently serving a life sentence without parole for the deadly shooting of Gumpenberger. Pamela Hupp is charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action in the death of Elizabeth “Betsy” Faria, in 2011. Prosecutors contend Hupp killed Faria four days after persuading her to switch a $150,000 life insurance policy to Hupp. She then allegedly tried to stage the scene to make it appear that Faria’s husband killed her.

This will be Zellweger's first starring role in a broadcast television series, although she has appeared in 40 movies. Most recently, she won the Oscar for Best Actress in 2020 for her role as Judy Garland in the biopic "Judy."

In the Gumpenberger case, Prosecutor Tim Lohmar has said Hupp was smart, but left a trail of clues that got her. "I think she thought she was the smartest person in the room, no matter what room she was in. And it was clear that she was embolded. Now, you can think she believed, honestly, she would never get caught," Lohmar said.
"The Thing About Pam," which also features Josh Duhamel and Judy Greer, premieres on March 8th on NBC.
