It was a typical morning at San Francisco's Pier 41 at the Wharf on Thursday when a coyote pup was spotted wandering the area.

When humans approached the pup to try to help, the coyote panicked and jumped into the Bay.
While the coyote was swimming around, Amanda Hogarth, Operations Manager at Blue & Gold fleet looked out of her office window and was shocked by what she saw.

"First time I’ve ever been anywhere and looked out the window and saw a coyote swimming around," she said.
She turned to one of her coworkers and said, "We have to do something, we have to help it," she remembered. They ran outside and spotted a lone San Francisco Animal Care & Control worker struggling with a dog net trying to reach the pup.
Hogarth’s colleagues from the ferry service sprang into action, and using a small boat of theirs assisted the worker in rescuing the pup from the water.
"Poor little thing was so cold and so tired," Hogarth said, estimating the coyote had been in the water for about 10 minutes. One of her coworkers petted the pup to try warming it up once it was safe on the vessel.
The coyote is reportedly in good health, was given fluids and sedated after the ordeal. According to Animal Care and Control Captain Amy Corso, this isn't the first water rescue workers have had to attempt, and not even the first coyote water rescue.
"Every time it's different," she said. In other instances, they've used paddle boats from lakes, or other vessels. They don't have their own boat, but at this rate, we should probably get one," she said.
Corso guesses the little pup wandered over from a known coyote family living by Coit Tower.
The young female was released back into her area after treatment on Thursday afternoon.
