Do turtles kiss?

Police in Sarasota, Fla., witnessed a seemingly romantic moment this week when they found two sea turtles “kissing” and staring into each other’s eyes during the Sarasota Powerboat Grand Prix festival.

Officers saw the sea turtles floating off Lido Bay and posted a video on Sunday. The Powerboat Grand Prix was held off the bay near Big Sarasota Pass on Saturday and Sunday to raise money for local charities, said WTSP.

So, were the sea turtles actually kissing?

According to Gainesville-based organization The Sea Turtle Conservancy, “during mating season, males may court a female by nuzzling her head or by gently biting the back of her neck and rear flippers.” Mating season for the turtles lasts from May through September.

In addition to the lovestruck turtles, a group of anglers recently caught a shark on video near the same spot last month.
