After hearing what the Orioles parted with for Corbin Burnes, Keith McPherson of WFAN couldn’t believe that the Yankees didn’t land the ace and former Cy Young winner.
“The full deal is for Joey Ortiz, DL Hall, and the No. 34 pick in the 2024 draft. Excuse me, say what?” Keith said. “For the 2021 NL Cy Young winner? Are you joking me? They gave him away!
“That’s the price for an ace right now? What a joke…two 25-year-old prospects and the 34th pick in the draft coming up?”
Keith had already said Yankee fans should be worried about the Orioles after getting new ownership that could be a lot more willing to spend than the Angelos ownership was, but now that they have already brought in a bonafide ace, Keith says Baltimore is about to be another long-term thorn in the Yankees’ side.
“Here come the Baltimore Orioles, the new Houston Astros in the Yankees’ division,” Keith said. “So now we gotta deal with the new Astros in the AL East, and the Astros in the AL. Oh, joy!
“Now when you see what is going on here with your direct rivals and direct competition, you didn’t do enough. You’re gonna have to do a lot more. They’re applying pressure.”
