·Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is taking his music career more seriously.
·The actor and former WWE star has released a new ballad called “Your Dad,” which he co-wrote with 2023 American Idol winner Iam Tongi and dedicated to his three daughters, Simone, Jasmine and Tiana.
·The song appears on Moana: Voices Across the Ocean, a companion album inspired by Disney’s live-action Moana.
·The album features more than 25 artists and music representing cultures and languages from across Polynesia.
·“Your Dad” started as a different song. Tongi originally sent Johnson a track called “My Dad,” written with his late father in mind.
·Johnson said the song made him cry, but because his relationship with his own late father, wrestler Rocky Johnson, was complicated, he asked Tongi to rewrite the song with him from the perspective of a father speaking to his daughters.
·Johnson says music has been part of his life since he was young. His influences include Sam Cooke, Elvis Presley, George Jones, Merle Haggard, Johnny Paycheck and Willie Nelson.
·Nelson even gave Johnson one of a limited number of Martin guitars modeled after his famous “Trigger” guitar as a birthday gift.
·Now Johnson says he wants to explore what a music career might look like, with an interest in old-school soul mixed with country influences.
·This would not be his first musical success. He sang “You’re Welcome” as Maui in the original Moana, a song which has racked up more than 1.8 billion views on YouTube.
