Sharing the track’s cover art earlier this week, ROSÉ teased the arrival of her brand new track, with the snap of herself staring wistfully off to the side, wearing a white baby tee with the song’s title printed in bold, red writing. “This one’s for my number ones. ❤️,” the BLACKPINK star wrote in the post's caption.

A major divergence from her up-tempo lead single, “number one girl,” is a vulnerable ballad that exposes ROSÉ’s yearning to be loved and accepted, as she pleads to the one listening to tell her all the things she longs to hear.

“Tell me that I'm special / Tell me I look pretty / Tell me I'm a little angel / Sweetheart of your city,” ROSÉ requests at the top of the track. “Tell me I'm that new thing / Tell me that I'm relevant / Tell me I got a big heart / And back it up with evidence / I need it and I don’t know why / This late at night,” she continues her plea for validation.

Revealing in a recent interview that “number one girl” will be the first track on her upcoming album, ROSÉ also shared the song was inspired by a sleepless night during which the singer couldn’t stop fixating about people’s online opinions about her.

“I had been on the internet ‘til like 5AM — I couldn’t sleep because I was so obsessed with what these people were gonna say about me and what I wanted them to say about me,” ROSÉ admitted. “I was so disgusted at myself for it — I never wanted to admit it to anyone, I didn’t even want to admit it to myself. But I had to be fully honest in the studio.”

To those listening, ROSÉ asks “Isn't it lonely?,” letting them know — “I'd do anything to make you want me / I'd give it all up if you told me / That I'd be / The number one girl in your eyes / Your one and only / So what's it gon' take for you to want me? / I’d give it all up if you told me that I'd be / The number one girl in your eyes.”

The track co-written and co-produced by Amy Allen, D-Mile, Omer Fedi, Carter Lang, Bruno Mars, and Dylan Wiggins, arrived with a lo-fi music video directed by ROSÉ herself — check it out below.
