NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- You can take the boy out of Brooklyn, but you can't take the Brooklyn out of the boy.

So seems the case with the nation's top infectious diseases expert, Dr. Anthony Fauci, who grew up in Bensonhurst and whose palette still longs for culinary staples from the old neighborhood.

During a Monday Zoom session with Gov. Andrew Cuomo, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases was asked by Cuomo, "We want to figure out what to send you for Christmas. What food do you miss the most that you can't get down there (in Washington) that you could get if you were back here in New York in Brooklyn?"

Without missing a beat, Fauci, responded, "You know governor, whenever I need some comfort food and when I dream back of my days in the Bensonhurst section of Brooklyn, the thing that comes to mind are two things: a nice Nathan's hot dog and a really steaming pastrami sandwich. That would be really great."

Cuomo then asked the fellow Italian-American, "So no cannolli, no meatballs?"

"I don't want to over do it," Fauci told Cuomo, laughing.

"An Italian guy asking for a Nathan's hot dog and a pastrami sandwich," Cuomo said afterwards. "You cant figure out anything anymore!"
