Paramore’s Hayley Williams and former guitarist, Josh Farro, have often been looked at as important influences in relation to Rodrigo’s music. Now the 18-year-old superstar has made it official, adding Williams and Farro to the writing credits on “Good 4 U.” Many fans have drawn parallels between Rodrigo’s 2021 single and Paramore’s 2007 hit, “Misery Business.”

This is not the first time Olivia has made amendments to the writing credits since the debut of SOUR. Previously, she added Taylor Swift and co-writers to the credits for the tracks, “déjà vu,” and “1 Step Forward, 3 Steps Back.”

In recent years retroactively adding writing credits to songs has become popular, as a means to avoid intellectual property lawsuits. Long dragged out lawsuits have plagued tracks such as Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse.”

However, Rodrigo has acknowledged the influence from musicians she admires shining through her own songs. While Swift’s “Cruel Summer” influence on “déjà vu,” is less apparent, Paramore’s sonic influence is cut and dry on “Good 4 U.”

Recently, Olivia was accused of lifting a guitar riff from Elvis Costello’s 1978 track, “Pump It Up,” on her single “Brutal.” However, Costello quickly took to Twitter to shut down the chatter. He wrote, “This is fine by me. It’s how rock & roll works. You take the broken pieces of another thrill and make a brand new toy. That’s what I did.”
