During movie date night over the weekend, I watched one of the best character movies in a long time with honey Ted (Rudy Roo too). I'm not one to say that out loud often, because many times I enjoy movies that don't always get great reviews. This one got 85% Rotten Tomatoes / 95% audience, which is pretty darn good. Lately, trying to find new / good movies to watch on NetFlix , that are available, can be tough. When this movie came up, honey Ted and I went for it.
Our Friend- starring Jason Segal, Casey Affleck and Dakota Johnson. The movie is based on an article,'The Friend', that was written by journalist Matt Teague (Casey Affleck) grieving for his wife Nicole (Dakota Johnson) who lost her battle to ovarian cancer. The twist of the story is how their best friend Dane Faucheux (Jason Segal) became a hero to everyone in the family during Nicole's passing and beyond by doing what he felt was true to his heart.
Our Friend was directed by Gabriela Cowperthwaite who has a strong background of writing, producing and directing tv / documentaries. Her talents of telling a story with honesty and sincerity created a beautiful and heartbreaking emotional rollercoaster ride of a movie. Filming where the family lived. Keeping things as close to authentic and genuine as possible.

1. Tissue Alert! You will need tissues handy. Ugly crying is possible, sometimes while laughing.
2. A true character movie where the process of life's journey allows them to grow. From the heartbreak that starts in the beginning to the end.
3. Our Friend can / will likely bring up conversation with your honey, family and friends ...
4. It's a great movie to watch in comfy clothes / pjs. Eating your favorite comfort foods. Water-proof makeup / or even make-up free is probably the best way to go.
5. Stopping & starting when it's necessary to catch what might have been missed. There is going back and forth in time, but it's always dated which helps. Also, goes back to the tissue alert!
Our Friend takes the journey of true love within friendship, an imperfect marriage and a family during the ultimate heartbreak of watching a loved one pass away. It's an emotional rollercoaster worth experiencing during a movie night at home. Making you feel blessed and grateful for the times you have with those you love.
