Buying things and throwing them away is a common practice we all do. Especially when it comes to the quick and easy single use items. Throw in a pandemic! Bam! So many items are being thrown away, and ending up in our landfills. There are ways to stay safe looking out for our health, while doing the same for the environment.

What you don't buy is just as important as what you do.Try this the next time you go to the store. Avoid putting these single use items on your list. Rethink disposables. Once you can change your mindset, a reusable routine can kick in. It may not happen all at once, but each sustainable action is a #1Thing win!

1. Paper Towels
A dishcloth, rag, or towel works well to wipe up messes paper towels are used for. They can be washed to be used again, rather than thrown away after a single use. It's also good to avoid paper towels that are unbleached or recycled paper towels. Stop the buy-use-toss cycle.

2. Dryer Sheets
These work by coating your clothing with perfumed animal fat. Single use, and not vegan friendly. A greener alternative is a wool dryer ball. They fluff your clothing and dry the load faster. Another option is using a clothes-line or drying rack. Cutting down on energy. Greener option that can save you green too.

3. Zip Top Bags
Big players in the buy-use-toss cycle that are big fillers in our landfills and oceans / waterways. This might take a bit more time to do, but it's a huge win against single use waste when you do. Use substitutes that are reusable options. Store leftovers in glass containers. Sandwiches for school lunches can be in a zippered fabric bag. Beeswax wraps for cheese, veggies and just about everything.

4. Disposable Razors
Ditch the single use plastic razors. Invest in a proper double-edged razor. Stopping the disposable razor mountain from growing in the landfills.
