'Tis the season to fire up the grill! The grilling pros say the biggest mistake they see over and over is not getting the temperature right. It can happen anytime during the grilling process. Having the temperarture correct is important for the food taste, and avoiding any illnesses caused by unproperly cooked food. Once you get the temperature right, then the rest falls into place. A tasty yummy place is the cookout goal!

Upgrade Your Grill Skills


1. Put the meat on the grill at the right time
Preheat before meat. 15 minutes is suggested. It's ready when the middle of the grill is warm

2. Control the heat of the grill
Set the grill up with two zones: Roaring Hot & Not. Direct heat & not. It's also helpful for warming.

3. Internal temperature of food is also important
Get a cooking thermometer to make sure the meat is cooked completely and safe to eat. Ground meat 160 degrees Fahrenheit, 165 F for turkey and chicken, and 145 F for steak and pork. Steak at 135 F so it doesn't dry out.

4. Don't add the sauce too early
The sugar in the sauce / marinade will burn. It's best to put the sauce on when the meat is about 70% cooked. The difference between being charred and burnt.

5. Grilling vegetables and fruits
No worries about food poisoning, but cooking veggies and fruits completely makes for a much better taste. It's suggested to cook them on high heat 4-10 minutes depending on the produce.
