When asked if the track was written while consuming substances or written based on a fear of heights, both the men claiming to be Alex Pall and Drew Taggart agreed that it was a combination of both. The duo revealed that they were in fact “high” while writing the song, but they were also in a hot air balloon during the song’s conception.

When in the hot air balloon, "Taggart" tells us, “we were freaking out! We were so high up and so high on a few different kinds of drugs and we said ‘I can’t do this I’m so high,’ and then we started laughing because we were in a hot air balloon.” Additionally, Drew revealed that “High” was the first song he and Alex wrote for their upcoming album and that the rest of the new music feeds off of their one wild hot air balloon experience.

With a “new image” (like, really new) going forward "Pall" tells us he wants fans to “push the reset button and just get ready to hear something from us that you haven’t heard before.” In 2022, The Chainsmokers are quite literally new people… with a new sound.

Taggart notes, “it’s the project that I think we’re both most proud of.” It’s been two years since the duo has released new music, allowing for a complete evolution and new era for the producers.

The men taking on the identities of Pall and Taggart tell us that amidst their evolution they started collecting Faberge eggs, essentially noting that they weren’t sure what else to do with their money after investing in NFTs and cryptocurrency. Pall said, “it’s interesting to collect an entire collection of something and just look at it and know that you own all of them.”

While expanding their new sound, the DJs tell us they leaned into using household objects to create their music. Pall shared, “there is a lot of percussion that you wouldn’t believe what we got the sound out of.”

With “High” dropping at the end of the month and a new album on the way, check out "The Chainsmokers’" full interview above. It's always great to see a familiar face. For more on the new album, watch the full behind-the-scenes video below.
