We found out Wednesday morning the Texans are opening the season at NRG Stadium against the Jacksonville Jaguars, led by first-year head coach Urban Meyer and No. 1 overall pick quarterback Trevor Lawrence.
The Jaguars are early 1.5-point favorites in the opener against Houston.
Week 2 traveling to Cleveland on Sept. 19
The Texans are traveling to Cleveland in a rematch of last year's Week 10 head-to-head, which Houston lost 10-7 on a long run by Nick Chubb at the end of the game.
An added caveat is the Texans will face former No. 1 overall pick Jadeveon Clowney for the second time since trading him two years prior. They faced Clowney last season when he was with the Tennessee Titans.
Week 4 traveling to Buffalo on Oct.3
Seems like so long ago, but this is technically a rematch of the AFC Divisional round two seasons ago at NRG Stadium.
Only so much as changed. The Bills, who lost that divisional game after leading 16-0 at halftime, are now legitimate contenders in the AFC led by quarterback Josh Allen.
Meanwhile, the Texans have flailed, all but lost their franchise quarterback Deshaun Watson and are now rebuilding.
Week 5 hosting the Patriots on Oct. 10
Who will be the quarterbacks, on either side? Will the Patriots start Cam Newton at NRG for the second straight year, or do Texans fans get a look at rookie Mac Jones?
And for the Texans, will it still be Tyrod Taylor, or does rookie Davis Mills impress early enough to supplant him at that point?
Week 7 traveling to Arizona on Oct. 24
Circle this date on the calendar. The Texans face two of the greatest players in franchise history for the first time.
Three-time Defensive Player of the Year J.J. Watt in free agency joined All-Pro wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins in Arizona just a year after the Texans made one of the most outrageous trades in league history.
We'll get to see who's life is better on the other side.
Week 12 hosting Jets on Nov. 28
This will be a time when Texans fans could reasonably expect to see Mills play one way or another, whether it's by injury or performance.
In that case, the Houston crowd almost assuredly gets the Zach Wilson-Davis Mills matchup, which wouldn't exactly qualify as the main card of 2021 rookie QB matchups, but you make lemonade with it.
Week 16 hosting Chargers on Dec. 26
KPRC's Vanessa Richardson reports the Texans host the Chargers in Week 16 on Dec. 26.
This matchup should pit two former Pac 12 rivals in Mills (Stanford) and Chargers star quarterback Justin Herbert (Oregon), the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year last season.
Taylor would be facing his old team if he's still the starter, as would quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator Pep Hamilton.
Stay tuned for more leaks. 👀
