Following his announcement of two more musical projects under his alter ego stage name Childish Gambino, Donald Glover has announced the final album, Bando Stone & The New World, will arrive July 19.
Back in April, Glover revealed plans to release two more albums under his Childish Gambino alias. The first being Atavista, the self-described “finished version” of 3.15.20, put out four years ago, and Bando Stone & the New World being the second.
Along with the album announcement, Gambino gave us its first single “Lithonia," a rocky, reverb track, featuring heavy guitars and repetition that “nobody gives a f***.”
The album which will act as the soundtrack to his self-written, produced, scored and directed film of the same name, which he also stars in. Ahead of announcing the album, Donald dropped the trailer for Bando Stone & The New World in tandem with his appearance at the 2024 BET Awards.
In the trailer, Donald, as the film’s title character, Bando Stone, is seen meandering through an empty world trying to deliver mail before stumbling upon a mother and her son. Together they fight for survival in a dystopian society with giant squids, but mostly run away from knife-wielding villains, menacing emu-like birds, and sci-fi video game laser obstacles that continue to get in their way. And while there’s no official release date just yet, the film will arrive in 2024.
As part of the final hoorah for his Childish Gambino era, Donald will be hitting the road later this summer for his previously announced New World Tour. The international kicks off on August 11 in North America, before heading to Europe, and Oceania, bringing WILLOW and Aamarae along for the ride as openers on select dates.
