Stuart Damon, who played Dr. Alan Quartermaine in the famous soap opera “General Hospital,” has died. He was 84.

According to ABC7 in Los Angeles, Christopher, the actor’s son, confirmed the news and said that his father’s “favorite place to be” was the soap opera. “He loved playing Alan and was always so appreciative of that role and that job. It was his passion.”

"General Hospital" alum and former co-star Amber Tamblyn tweeted a tribute in remembrance of Damon on Tuesday.

"Broken hearted to hear of the passing of Stuart Damon. He played my adopted dad on General Hospital for 7 years and he was the most kind, wonderful, loving, supportive person. He always made me laugh and made me feel safe on set. I love you, Stewy. Rest well now, my friend," she captioned the tweet, which featured two photos of the late soap star.

For several years, Damon had suffered from renal failure.

The “General Hospital” star was born in Brooklyn in 1937 and began his acting career on and off-Broadway with appearances throughout the 1960s. His credits include “The Boys From Syracuse,” “Irma La Douce,” and “Do I Hear a Waltz?”

Damon got into television when he starred as the prince in the 1965 production of the musical “Cinderella.”

The star became well known in 1977, where he starred as Dr. Alan Quartermaine, a physician with a painkiller addiction at “General Hospital.” He continued that role for twenty-two years and scored nine Daytime Emmy Award nominations. He eventually won a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series in 1999. He also brought the character to the spinoff series “Port Charles.”

However, his character remained significant in the soap opera for nearly 30 years. When Damon’s character died in 2007, Quartermaine kept a ghostly presence on the show until December of 2008. He would eventually return in 2011 and 2013 to reprise the Quartermaine role.

After three decades on “General Hospital,” he also guests starred in additional soap operas, including “Days of Our Lives” and “As the World Turns.”
