“Hostess Brands is recalling the impacted products out of an abundance of caution after becoming aware of this issue from its co-manufacturer, Best Harvest Bakeries, through Best Harvest Bakeries’ environmental monitoring program,” the company said in its announcement. “To date, Hostess Brands has received no reports of illness related to this issue.”

The buns were sold to grocery stores, convenience stores and other distributors across the United States, according to the company.
“As Best Harvest Bakeries only manufactures certain Hostess hamburger buns and hot dog buns for Hostess Brands, no other Hostess products are affected, including Hostess bread and bagel products,” Hostess added.
According to the FDA, salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.
Healthy people infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain, the administration said. But salmonella infections can produce more severe illnesses in rare circumstances.
Listeria can bring about short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea among healthy people, according to the FDA. But a listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women and sometimes fatal illnesses among young children, the eldery and others with weakened immune systems.
