(SportsRadio 610) - Texans wide receiver Chris Moore worked his way from the practice squad to active roster last year.

Now in his second year with the team after five years with the Baltimore Ravens, Moore is one of their more valued special teams players and considered a sure-handed receiver.

He's in a preseason competition as the Texans sort out their weapons for second-year quarterback Davis Mills and first-year offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton.

At training camp earlier this month, Mills called Moore one of the hardest workers on the team, a consistent route runner who the team trusts.

Moore, when speaking with reporters after Wednesday's practice, was just as complimentary of Mills, noting the steps he's taken in leadership.

The spent time in the offseason working on their timing and chemistry. Moore told In The Loop he's even golfed with Mills.

They cover a range of topics, from Moore's time in college at Cincinnati to what he likes to do in his off time.

"Most offenses are based off timing and trust between the quarterback and receiver," Moore said after practice when asked about his offseason work with Mills. "He's got to trust that I'm going to be in the spot that he expects me to be in, and I've got to trust that he's going to throw it there. Just consistently seeing each other being in those spots is going to help a lot. ...

"We're going to establish the identity from Week 1 and we're just going to continue to try to grow on it and just show it every week."
