
It is actively affecting the health of U.S. citizens in 29 different states and has infected 280 people in the last five days, causing more than two dozen hospitalizations. But for once we’re not talking about COVID-19.
Oh, we’re still dealing with the coronavirus impacting the health of Americans, but these particular stats belong to a salmonella outbreak that is rampaging through the country, according to the CDC.

The origin of the outbreak is currently unknown, but Texas leads the nation with 81 confirmed cases so far. Illinois is next with 23, then Virginia with 22. Minnesota and Massachusetts comprise the rest of the top five, meaning the radius of affected areas is quite large.
While the CDC has labeled it a “fast-growing outbreak,” thankfully there are no deaths attributed yet.
The agency is testing the foods at restaurants where people ate before they got sick, but so far they have yet to identify the source.
