There’s a cute Instagram dad clip, and then there’s a really cute Instagram dad clip.
Actor Patrick Renna won the really cute dad IG clip award when he posted a brief but hilarious story of his son’s first baseball black eye.
The 42-year-old, who is one of the stars of the beloved 1993 baseball movie classic “The Sandlot,” explained how his 4-year old son, Flynn, just got his first black eye during a baseball game and “I knew exactly what to do.”
Then a quick cut to his adorable son on his lap, where Renna then slaps a big floppy steak right on Flynn’s face. The kid busts out laughing while dad quips, “If you know, you know.”
And you would know if you’re familiar with the period piece comedy where Renna played catcher Hamilton "Ham" Porter on a team of rowdy kids.
As recalled by Entertainment Weekly, Renna was referencing a scene from that coming-of-age classic in which Tom Guiry (Smalls) plays catch with Denis Leary (Bill) and a curveball hits him in the face. Leary's character comes over and suddenly slaps a steak on Smalls' eye, letting him know it'll help keep the swelling down.
The movie, which also starred Denis Leary, Karen Allen and James Earl Jones, was a hit that spawned two sequels.
The IG clip will have that kind of silly but somehow almost tear-jerking effect, if you’re the type that just loves those nostalgic baseball flicks.
And something tells us that little Flynn is going to love those movies too, if dad has anything to say about it -- as evidenced by the fact that Renna has already taken Flynn to visit the actual sandlot where the movie was shot.
Plus the timing of this fun little clip is great, as we’re entering the “meat” of the baseball season, and with everyone slowly getting to go out and see ballgames again after a year of lockdown.
