The Autism Society of Central Virginia is proud to announce that we will host the RVA Duck Race & Festival of Inclusion on August 20, 2022, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. More than 7,000 attendees will join together on Brown’s Island to watch 15,000+ rubber ducks float down the canal and race toward the finish line for the chance to win the $10,000 grand prize among other unique local prizes. A new Richmond tradition will also take hold as the nonprofit launches the first ever Festival of Inclusion during the event.
“We could not be more excited to bring this tradition back to Richmond, while also creating a new, accessible event that promotes inclusion for our local autism community.” says Executive Director, Ann Flippin. “We will bring more awareness to our mission and raise critical funds for our work as the need continues to grow.”
All are encouraged to purchase Duck Entries online leading up to the event and help us reach our goal of 15,000 ducks: www.rvaduckrace.org. Duck Entries can also be purchased the day of the festival at Brown’s Island. Duck Entries start at $7 each.
Each entry gives a chance to win incredible prizes, including a $10,000 grand prize. The organization expects more than 7,000 attendees to gather on Brown's Island. While the Duck Race is a familiar summer event in Richmond, the ASCV's Festival of Inclusion is new to the city. It will be Richmond's first sensory-friendly festival designed to include and accommodate individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities. In addition to live performances, vendors, local food, and family activity zones, local businesses will bring five different Festival of Inclusion zones to life:
Movement Zone, hosted by GPM Investments: Jump! Wiggle! Run! The Movement Zone will feature activities to inspire physical agility and coordination. This space is designed to wake up those muscles and get that body moving. Fun for the whole family!
Expression Zone, Hosted by Hybridge Learning Center: Express yourself! Visit the Expression Zone and experience everything from improv to instruments. With a focus on the live and performing arts, learn ways to express your unique talents.
Creation Zone, hosted by James River Orthodontics: Let your imagination soar in the Creation Zone! Featuring a variety of inclusive and adaptive local art groups, visitors to the Creation Zone can immerse themselves in the visual arts. Join in the demonstrations and art projects to express yourself, get creative, and learn more about the maker scene in RVA.
