There is nothing like the excitement of tearing open your Christmas presents and playing with whatever toy was magically hidden within. However, there are some toys and accessories that you may want to avoid giving your kids because they could get injured. And some are ones that will surprise you!
Dr. Meghan Martin of Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital dropped a list of five of those toys/accessories:
- button batteries: YES! The batteries that look like buttons and use in everything from watches to remote controls. If you child swallows one of those suckers, all sorts of complications can happen.

- water beads: They are marketed as "sensory" toys for your child but are also sold as decorative crafts for vases, etc. They are not only a choking hazard but if swallowed can swell and become a bowel obstruction.

- electric scooters: If your child isn't careful then they could fall off the scooter, especially if going too fast. Make sure they understand the safe way to operate the scooter and that they really need a helmet.

- hoverboards: "see above"

- trampolines: There are different ways a child could get hurt on a trampoline and, "Of all the hazardous toys she has seen cause injuries in children, Martin said trampolines are the worst offender." From broken bones to pulled muscles you may want to rethink getting one for the family.

Martin says these items cause the most ER visits of any toys right after Christmas.
