NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — Butterball is recalling more than 14,000 pounds of ground turkey over concerns that the products could be contaminated with bits of blue plastic.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service said in a press release Wednesday that several consumers had filed complaints about blue plastic being embedded in the raw meat.
The products were shipped to retailers nationwide.
The ground turkey impacted by the recall was produced on Sept. 28 and the items bear establishment number “EST. P-7345” inside the USDA mark of inspection.
The products subject to the recall include:
• 2.5-pound trays containing “farm to family Butterball all natural Ground Turkey” with the case code 50211271, a sell or freeze by date of 10/18/2021, and timestamps from 21:23 through 23:02 printed on the packaging.
• 3-pound trays containing “Kroger Ground Turkey” with the case code 50211271, a sell or freeze by date of 10/17/2021, and timestamps from 23:14 through 23:51 printed on the packaging.
No injuries have been reported as a result of the contamination.
Consumers are being told not to eat the products. They are advised to dispose of the products or return them to the place of purchase.
