It was a halftime show for the ages as Dre and Snoop Dogg made sure to give viewers a little history lesson. The pair opened up with a rousing rendition of “Next Episode,” their collaboration from Dre’s 1999 record 2001.

The duo then paid tribute to a fellow West Coast Hip Hop titan as they performed “California Love,” the hit 1995 single from Tupac Shakur. “California Love” is one of Tupac's most well-known tracks as Dre not only produced the song, but was featured in the first verse as well.

Later on in the show, Dre took up a seat behind the piano and briefly played the iconic piano riff to Tupac’s “I Ain’t Mad At Cha.” You can watch the full Halftime performance here.

While rumors were swirling across social media that a Tupac hologram would be the surprise guest at the Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show, that never came to be.

There was a logical connection to the rumors as Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg performed alongside a hologram of Tupac at the 2012 Coachella Music Festival.
