Kid Cudi is back on the fashion scene, once again rocking a dress in honor of one of his musical icons, the late Kurt Cobain of Nirvana.

Cudder wore the gown complete with a white jacket, lacy gloves, tights, and a veil to the CFDA Fashion Awards in New York City on Wednesday night alongside tuxedoed Emerging Designer of the Year nominee Eli Russell Linnetz. The rapper topped off the look with sparkled kicks, messy makeup, bright pink hair, and a Jesus pendant.

Walking the red carped hand in hand with stoic faces, Cudi and Linnetz shared the spotlight, at one point Linnetz lifting Cudi's veil before the Ohio-born rapper mugged for CFDA's social media, telling viewers to "Be yourself. Be free, baby!"

Providing some context the following day, Cudi posted his own inspiration on Twitter, showing a throwback photo of late Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain wearing a similar-looking wedding dress.

In an interview with PEOPLE magazine, Linnetz explained that he "just out of the blue sent [Cudi] a text of a wedding dress," and asked, "'Will you be my bride?'" Cudi was all for it, saying, "I trust this man so I was down to take it wherever his mind went."

This, of course, is not the first time he's worn his love for Cobain and Nirvana on his... sleeveless get-up. Back in April, Cudi performed on Saturday Night Live donning another dress, originally made famous when Cobain wore it years prior. Cudi's appearance on SNL happened to fall on the same week as the 27th anniversary of Cobain's death.
