It's not too often that we get to hear different versions of established theme songs -- by their nature created to grab the ear as a reminder of familiar things to come. But football fans better get ready to shake things up with Marshmello's recent appointment as music curator for the NFL's Monday Night Football on ESPN.

Following up his duties performing at the 2022 NFL Draft festivities along with Weezer and Ice Cube back at the end of April, the masked marauder Marshmello has been tapped as ESPN's Monday Night Football music curator for the 2022 NFL season and he's already thrown his first touchdown, using his track with Polo G, "Grown Man," in the first promo.
Aside from Marshmello providing the soundtrack to weekly Monday Night Football promos this year (following the footsteps of Diplo in 2019, DJ Khaled in 2020, and Drake in 2021), he’s also "made it right" by remixing the franchise’s well-known “Heavy Action” theme in his own style to kick things off, and you'll get to hear it the entire 2022 NFL season.
His new spin on the original track, which was composed by Johnny Pearson in 1970 and officially became part of the Monday Night Football production in 1975, is the very first to be officially licensed and will be debuted on-air during the Seattle Seahawks' home game against the Denver Broncos on September 12.
“Our goal was to take the classic 'Monday Night Football' music and add a contemporary vibe to it,” Kevin Wilson, ESPN's Creative Music Director, said in a statement. “To get there, we wanted to enlist an artist, a move we have never previously done with Heavy Action remix.”
“Working with ESPN is a dream come true as Monday Night Football and the NFL have been a part of my life ever since I can remember,” adds Marshmello. “Having the opportunity to put my own spin on an iconic song that NFL fans everywhere recognize was an amazing opportunity.”
