Acclaimed actress Julianne Moore once got a very pointed piece of advice.

“Someone in the film industry said to me, ‘You should try to look prettier,’” Moore told The Times. “I was like, ‘I don’t know if I can.’ Obviously, ours is a business where there is some physicality involved, but beauty and prettiness are subjective.”

Moore went on to discuss her red hair and how it has made her stand out in her career.

“My red hair made me feel like an outsider growing up,” the “Boogie Nights” star said. “Redheads are two percent of the global population. Nobody wants to feel like they’re in the minority, particularly as a young child. Now I feel very identified with my hair and freckles, but there’s still a part of me that would rather be a tanned blonde.”

Even with red hair and being told to change her looks Moore is an Oscar winner and continues to be one of the most lauded actors in Hollywood.

She will next appear in “When You Finish Saving the World” hitting theaters Jan. 20.
