After nearly 12 years of marriage, Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth are calling it quits.
The 47-year old actress and producer and the 52-year old Hollywood talent agent announced their breakup in March, sharing that after “a great deal of care and consideration” they had reached “the difficult decision” to end their marriage.
The pair, who share a son, 10-year old Tennessee, said they “enjoyed so many wonderful years together and are moving forward with deep love, kindness and mutual respect for everything we have created together.”
Witherspoon is now opening up about the divorce, and in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar she explained that sharing her story with the public helped her “feel very connected” to others “going through this experience. I don’t feel isolated at all.”
The star of “The Morning Show” also compared the split to her 2006 divorce from ex-husband, actor Ryan Phillippe.
Witherspoon, who shares children Ava, 23, and Deacon, 19, with Phillippe, said that when she and her “Cruel Intentions” co-star ended their marriage, “the tabloid media got to tell people how I was feeling or how I was processing, and it felt very out of control.”
She continued, noting that being “able to say things in my own voice and not let somebody else control what’s happening” in her personal life “feels much more authentic” despite speculation that is out of her control.
“All I can do is be my most honest, forthright self and be vulnerable. It’s a vulnerable time for me,” said Witherspoon.
