After uncertainty encompassed the event, America’s first “socially distant” concert took place Monday night.

Bishop Gunn vocalist Travis McCready performed at TempleLive in Fort Smith, Arkansas on May 18, three days after the show was originally scheduled. This was due to a cease and desist order issued by Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson as the state had not yet authorized public gatherings prior to their May 18 reopening date.

Take a look below at photos from the performance and inside the venue to see what live music might look like in the foreseeable future.

Inside The Venue

Fans were made to social distance from one another by sitting in individual “fan pods,” blocks of seats that are six feet apart from one another.

The normal capacity of 1,100 seats was reduced to 229 for this event.

As the concert got approval to take place when the state reopened, it followed an extensive list of guidelines to ensure concertgoers safety.

Safety Measures

Prior to entering the venue, fans had their temperature taken at the entrance and had to be wearing a mask.

The Concert

McCready is set to perform a second show May 19, but the venue doesn’t have another show scheduled until August 22.

Inside The Venue

It remains to be seen whether or not more artists and venues will take this approach in the near future or if fans are willing to go back to concerts with guidelines like these in place.

If live music returns, images like these may be more commonplace.
