Even with a week between herself and “the slap,” comedian and Oscars co-host Amy Schumer still seemed in a state of shock about the incident between Will Smith and Chris Rock.
At her first stand-up appearance since the controversy occurred, Schumer told the audience at the Aces of Comedy show at the Mirage Theater in Las Vegas that she was not sure what to say about the incident.
"I don't even know what to say about the Oscars," said Schumer. "Like I really don't know what to say, I have no jokes about it. All I can say is that I don't know if you saw this but Will Smith slapped Chris Rock. Did you read that in your news feed?"

The “Life & Beth” star laid out the basic scenario of the odd moment in her funny way. "I was kind of feeling myself,” she admitted, “... and then all of a sudden Ali was making his way up," a sly reference to Smith’s 2001 film portrayal of the legendary boxer Muhammad Ali.
But, as Yahoo Entertainment reported, Schumer's light-hearted approach soon took a more serious turn. “And it was just a f***ing bummer,” she flatly stated. “All I can say is that it was really sad, and I think it says so much about toxic masculinity. It was really upsetting."
She then utilized her stand-up time to try out a few intense jokes that were cut from the Oscars show whose subjects included Joe Rogan, James Franco, and Alec Baldwin.
"I wasn't allowed to say any of that," she noted, "but you can just come up and [clock] someone."

This was the first time Schumer made an in-person public statement about the situation, but she did address it last week in a since-deleted Instagram post that read in part, “Anyway I'm still in shock and stunned and sad. I'm proud of myself and my co-hosts. But, yeah. Waiting for this sickening feeling to go away from what we all witnessed."
In addition to her new Hulu series, “Life & Beth,” Schumer will host the live comedy event, “Netflix Is a Joke: The Festival,” on May 6 in Los Angeles, and in August leaves on a four-month national tour.
