Quarantine has been a productive time for Anthony Green. From playing some of his biggest solo shows to date, spending more time with his kids, and creating a brand new album that might catch you by surprise, he’s certainly taken advantage of it.

“For one I really get to spend a lot of time with my kids,” Green told Morgan Freed, host of RADIO.COM’s Emo Nite about the biggest advantage to shifting to virtual performances. There’s also another advantage. Green is playing what he calls his biggest solo shows ever. “When I’m playing online, preparing for it and everything... I go on, do the show, and notice that I’m playing for like 3,000 people. I’m like, ‘dude that’s bigger than any solo show that I’ve played at any venue.’”
“Then when it’s done, I don’t have to fly home. I get to go upstairs and I can go kiss my kid and go lay in bed. That’s been a really cool aspect to it too,” Green added.
“I’m lucky that I have the ability to play music as a therapeutic thing,” Green said. “It has helped me focus my message of trying to make the best music I can, the truest music I can that promotes a message of connectivity. I can focus a little bit more on doing that now. I can get better at singing, I can get better at writing.”
While Green admits he does miss playing live shows in front of people, the ability to connect with fans and perform online has been a gift. “Really, if I care about what I do, like if I really care about it then I’m not going to worry about having to go get another job just to support it because that’s not the true burden to me,” he said. “The true burden would be if I, like, literally couldn’t play at all.”
Before we let Green go we had to find out if he had any new music on the horizon. “I’m so bad at spilling beans,” he said with a laugh.
“Very shortly, like in the coming weeks… I’ve been writing kids songs and I’m going to start putting them out like maybe once or twice a year, four songs at a time. For this first run it’s going to be a digital EP. I’m going to make a coloring book and coffee.”
"I shouldn’t even call them kids songs because they’re not,” he added. “I started writing them years ago, like ten years ago when I was still getting faded, and then I stopped. I revisited them when I was clean and my therapist was like, ‘go write happy music’ and I was like, ‘I can’t.’ Then I was like ‘oh I sing happy s*** to my kids all the time.’ It’s going to be called ‘Let’s Start A Band.’”
Emo Nite is not a band, and they’re not your usual DJs – Host Morgan Freed throws epic parties and now has a radio show for the music they love. Listen Sundays from 7PM - 8PM on your favorite RADIO.COM Alternative stations.
