Frontman Alex Turner said earlier this year regarding the new release, "I think we've got closer to a better version of a more dynamic overall sound," of Arctic Monkeys, adding, "the strings on this record come in and out of focus and that was a deliberate move and hopefully everything has its own space.

The band has also returned “back to earth” for this album, following the spacey trip taken on their previous offering, 2018's Tranquility Base Hotel And Casino. "It's a response I've had to other things we’ve composed," Turner explained. "This idea of something sounding 'cinematic.' I never completely subscribe to it, but it’s louder this time."

The Car is available everywhere now on standard streaming, vinyl, CD, and cassette formats, a deluxe edition on limited-edition grey vinyl via Arctic Monkeys’ official web store, as well as a custard-colored version that will be available at indie record shops and HMV stores. New album-themed merch like hats, tees, and more are also now available.
