Singer Tim Lambesis of the San Diego-based melodic metal band As I Lay Dying is currently on the mend in the hospital after suffering burns to 25% of his body in a bonfire mishap.

Lambesis, who it’s worth mentioning served time for attempting to hire a hitman (who ended up being an undercover detective) to murder his estranged wife, gave fans an update in an Instagram post on Wednesday morning.

Looking more like a smiling mummy in the photo rather than someone about to head into surgery, Lambesis explained his immediate situation and what landed him there in the first place.

“Keep your head up no matter what! I’m doing the best I can to make a thumps [sic] up on my way to surgery (in about 30 minutes),” Tim began.

“I apologize to my friends that I have not had the time to fill in yet on what happened. The entire gas cap fell off when trying to use a little from the trickle tip to get a bonfire started. Gas got all over my clothes and I ended up burning 25% of my body.”

Lambesis has been in the hospital since the weekend, and says he will likely be admitted for the next few weeks as he recovers. “I am extremely thankful for the Burns center workers who are taking care of me. I will try to update on my recovery. It will be a long road, but I will get back to full strength eventually,” he said optimistically.

As I Lay Dying's latest album Shaped by Fire, with Lambesis back in the fold, was released in 2019. A 2020 tour with Whitechapel, was postponed earlier this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
