On Saturday, September 9, the City of New York will unveil "Beastie Boys Square" to celebrate the group's impact on music and culture amid this year's 50th anniversary of Hip-Hop festivities.

Fans are invited to join the Beastie Boys' location renaming celebration scheduled between noon and 2PM at the corner of Ludlow and Rivington Streets on the Lower East Side of New York City, which will feature a guest DJ set from Jon Bless HiFi System, A-1 Records and Beasties pop-up shops, live screen printing, and more.
The group has also announced that surviving members Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovitz and Michael “Mike D” Diamond will join Council Member Christopher Marte, fellow New Yorkers, and fans, at the site featured on the cover of their 1989 album Paul’s Boutique to commemorate the unveiling of "Beastie Boys Square" and 50 years of Hip Hop in association with the City of New York.
The Beastie Boys’ decades-long relationship with New York City is on full display in 1989's Paul’s Boutique -- with lyrical references including the Ramones, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, the Village, Chrystie Street, the D Train, Ed Koch, the Knicks, the Yankees, Shea Stadium, the Palladium, Phil Rizzuto, the Atlantic Antic, the New York Post, El Diario, Bernard Goetz, Broadway, Jazzy Jay, Bad Brains, and more -- and is often referred to as the “Sgt. Pepper’s of Hip Hop.”
Additional celebrations in the city will include the cinema debut of the Apple Original Film Beastie Boys Story, directed by Academy Award winner Spike Jonze, at the IFC Center in Greenwich Village with showings on Friday, September 8, and Saturday, September 9 at 11:30PM.
